Seniors Over 65 Losing Health Care Benefits

A new ruling could mean less health care benefits for retirees over the age of 65. The policy, set forth in a new regulation, allows employers to establish two classes of retirees, with more comprehensive benefits for those under 65 and more limited benefits (or none at all) for those older. The reasoning being that the older employees should be eligible for Medicare, thus companies are relying more and more on government programs to cover what they feel they can no longer offer. This comes after premiums for employer-offered benefits rose 6.1% in the last year. However, almost 10 million seniors could be affected by this rule.
